Burma Army Attacks Villages in Eastern Burma as they Obstruct Relief to Cyclone Victims in the South

The Burma Army is attacking, burning villages, laying landmines and displacing people in eastern Burma. These attacks are part of an ongoing operation to completely dominate and control the ethnic peoples of Burma. This report contains photos and information sent by relief teams helping people who are under attack now. Thank you for your assistance to the over 40 FBR relief teams bringing help, hope and love to attacked and displaced people in the war zones of Burma.

As Thousands Suffer the Effects of Cyclone Nargis, Villagers Suffer Continued Brutality by the Burma Army

While survivors of the deadly cyclone in the Irrawaddy Delta and coastal regions of Burma struggle for survival, and the international community struggles through the obstruction and mismanagement of the SPDC to assist them, villagers in many areas of Karen State continue to be the target of the Junta's brutal policy of terror and oppression.

FBR Update on Cyclone Relief Efforts, Photos of the Devestation

The cyclone death toll is now reported to be up to 100,000. The dictators of Burma are actively obstructing local as well as international relief efforts. Local organizations and churches are working in the affected area and doing their best to help survivors. We, Partners Relief and Development, and other organizations are working to support these local efforts. Here are photos of some of the devastation.

Shan Refugee Camps

I have just been back from refugee camps on Burma border. The Shan refugee camps are especially dire. Goong Jor refugee camp is the first refugee camp I have visited. Thai government is not allowing the Shan ethnic displaced by war to gain refugee status. The Shan people are suffering and they are in great danger of being wiped out, especially if Salween Dam is built and the people are trapped on either side of the water. They need UN recognition as refugees; and in the immediate term, to receive humanitarian help. Please gather all your talents in politics, financial, fund raising, or anything to help. I will stay in touch with you and with the organization taking responsibility for the refugees.

Vote to Nowhere

On May 10, 2008, the Burmese military government will hold a referendum on a draft constitution that it claims will usher in a new era of “discipline-flourishing genuine multiparty democracy.” However, the generals’ referendum, reflecting 46 years of brutal military rule, will not bring the people of Burma any closer to a democratic and rights-respecting government they so desperately seek, and for which they have courageously struggled. Instead, the draft constitution that the generals are demanding the Burmese people approve is designed to perpetuate military control in Burma, and obstruct any steps toward a meaningful multiparty democracy that upholds human rights.
