Aid agencies accepting Burma cyclone relief donations

BURMA/MYANMAR: CYCLONE NARGIS APPEALS

(From UK embassy in Yangon)

The following experienced NGOs have all been established on the ground in Burma for many years, including in Irrawaddy, Bago, Yangon Divisions and Rakhine and Mon States.  They are variously already conducting assessments and starting to provide support to the populations hit by the cyclone.  Several of them (SCF, Merlin, World Vision, Care, Red Cross are members of the Disasters Emergency Committee which has launched a consolidated appeal.  The funds donated to this will be shared out to support the operations of the organisations on the ground.

You can donate through Disasters Emergency Committee (www.dec.org.uk) and claim Gift Aid for your donation if you are a UK taxpayer, maximising the effectiveness.
