Ceasefire group reorganized

The Shan State Nationalities People's Liberation Organization (SNPLO) that had been shattered the last two months by factional divisions have been reorganized, according to an SNPLO senior officer.
The remnant group, 600 strong, held a meeting at its Nawnghtao base in Hsihseng township, 59 miles south of the state capital Taunggyi, to elect the 11-men Central Committee led by the ageing Takley on 19 July, he said.

Takley
The faction led by Vice Chairman Khun Ti Hsawng returned to the armed struggle on 10 June. Which was followed by the surrender to the Burma Army on 8 July by its Chairman Khun Chit Maung.
The group has been active in the calls for greater autonomy to the non-Burman states in the military-organized National Convention. On the negative side, it has also been notorious by its prominent members' involvement in the drug trade.
It is however not represented in the current session of the Convention.
